Come Fly With Me!
Has my airport travel style finally had an upgrade from scruffy Waynetta Slob to a sleeker first-class Cindy Crawford? I think it just might have...
I can’t believe I’m going to be in the warm (🤞🏽) sunshine this Wednesday as we are flying off to Spain! We are taking mum and dad - a convalescence break for mum who hasn’t been very well lately, and with any luck #StressedHusband and I will get to de-stress a bit too.
Packing isn’t really a problem for me - I’ve got an array of colourful, crease-resistant dresses that I just roll up (read: chuck) into the suitcase that have been coming on trips with me over the years. They’re my failsafe, easy-wear holiday choices that just need to be paired with comfy flip flops, big sunglasses and maybe a bit of gold jewellery and I’m ready to go. Oh, add some coconut smelling body lotion for a glimmer and a large glass of sangria and I’m ready for my seafood paella in no-time!
My biggest holiday style problem is the travel outfit. I can’t do the cute wellness-gal trend of neutral toned athleisurewear – I just wind up resembling scruffy Waynetta (see image below for my duty-free doppelganger.)
Me in joggers is giving ‘get-me-a-Greggs’ vibe when the look I’m after is effortless chic and if I wasn’t flying on a cheap as chips airline, you might be mistaken in directing me to the first-class business lounge.
So, I’ve found (what I think is) a super simple little get up that will take me from Chiswick to the Costa del Sol, feeling and looking as smart as this midlife mama can possibly manage. The key for me is: elasticated waist, neutral tones (yes, we all know that leopard is now classed as a neutral) and comfy footwear. What do you think?
(Notice how Cosmo my gorgeous Golden Retriever pup pops up in this video as if to say, “WTF - you’re going on holiday and haven’t told me yet?” Sorry Cosmo!)
Shop The Look
Because I haven’t quite got to grips with mastering the video size aspects for Substack, you can’t quite see the whole of my outfit, so I’ve added the pieces here on real models 💁🏽♀️.
Khaki elastic waist linen-blend trousers
From New Look, these are a DE-light! I know I will be wearing them all summer and I’ve already got a shorter pair in rust that look just as great. Cool, easy-breezy, stylish trousers. Perfect. Easy to wear with t-shirts and flats or dressed up with shirts and wedges. Love!
New Look Black Whipstitch Chunky Sliders
I must say, I’m loving New Look right now and these sandals look fabulous on! The off-white stitching really gives them an expensive and upmarket look, levelling up my slider-style.
Leopard Print Shirt
My leopard print shirt was a gift from years ago - I love it because it goes with everything (and even if it doesn’t, I will wear it with anything anyway!) I’ve had a look around and there are some similar ones in Mango, ASOS, ZARA and Next. I’m particularly fond of the Love and Roses pink one below from Next, which might have found its way into my online cart 👀
Marks & Spencer Denim Jacket with Stretch
This is a particularly flattering style for all shapes and the added stretch is a real bonus for comfort. Say what you want, but you can’t go wrong with a denim jacket as your go-to summer staple. It’s basic but a must-have basic.
If I manage to move off the sunbed during the next week, I might endeavour to bring some more summer style inspo to my Substack. That said, my Kindle is fully loaded and so will be the bar of our favourite local chiringuito, so don’t hold me to it! But, before I shout bon voyage and jet off, let me know your dressing-to-travel tips and how you stay looking and feel fab during a flight - I would really love to know.
Ciao for now! 💋
I have the same problem with travel outfits, Lisa. I also think I have the holiday outfits sussed. The one thing I haven't figured is how to look glam by the pool/on the beach. I love being in the water and always look a mess but I've realised a happy mess so thats okay!
We are off soon to some sunshine, too - can't wait.
I love the sandals ... had them in shopping basket last night on NL but still pondering. I really don't need them but they are fab x
Love this, Lisa! I tried some very similar wide legged trousers in Zara, only one pair worked, and the others looked very much like PJ’s! Will definitely check out. Uniqlo have some nice pleated ones in as well I noticed on Saturday! And bless Cosmo 🥹– our cats are the same! At least one usually climbs into the suitcase, with packing in protest! Have the most wonderful sunny time and can’t wait to see pics. 🌞❤️🥰🤗
